FM27 save game editor: how to edit your savegame safely
People search for an "FM27 save editor" or "savegame editor" when they want to change a career that is already running. In practice the safest way to do that in Football Manager 27 is to edit the loaded game and then let FM write the save file itself.
Why edit the running game, not the .fm file
FM27 save files are compressed and structured in a format that changes between game versions. Editing the file directly is fragile, and a mistake can leave you with a save that won't load. Bootroom works differently. It changes the values in the running game, and FM's own Save Game writes them to disk. The file is always written by the game, in the format the game expects.
Step by step
- Back up your save. Copy your .fm file from
Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2027\games. - Start FM27 from Steam and load your career.
- Open Bootroom and search for a player, staff member or club.
- Click a value, type the new number and press Save in Bootroom.
- Press Continue in FM. The edit is applied straight away, but FM redraws player screens on the next in-game day.
- After continuing, click Read records in Bootroom before you edit again.
- Use FM's Save Game to keep the changes in your save file.
Back up first, every time
Bootroom is Early Access software. Before a big editing session, copy your save to a separate folder. A simple habit is to use Save As in FM with a new name (for example Arsenal-before-edit) so you can always go back. Turning off FM's auto-save overwrite or keeping several rolling saves also helps.
What you can edit in your save
- Players: all technical, mental and physical attributes, plus Current Ability (CA) and Potential Ability (PA).
- Hidden attributes: consistency, important matches, injury proneness, versatility and dirtiness.
- Staff: coaching, scouting and medical attributes and staff ability.
- Clubs: club balance and finances (four stored finance fields), training and youth facilities, junior coaching, youth recruitment and stadium values.
Not editable yet: preferred foot, positions, contracts, nationality, personality and reputation.
Popular edits include raising a youngster's potential ability, fixing injury proneness and boosting the club balance.

FAQ
Can I edit an FM27 save file directly?
Bootroom does not edit the .fm file on disk. It edits the loaded game, and you use FM's Save Game to write the changes into your save.
Will editing corrupt my save?
Always back up your save before editing. Bootroom is Early Access software, so keep a copy you can go back to.
Do I need to reload my save after editing?
No. Press Continue in FM and the edited players show the new values on the next in-game day. Then click Read records in Bootroom before you edit again.
Does it work with the Epic, Mac or Game Pass version?
Not yet. Bootroom currently supports only Steam FM27 build 27.0.0 on Windows 10/11 64-bit.
